Written and Directed by Tom Monson
Inspired by true events, this movie is about two children who walked for almost 2,000 miles across Africa. Not only did they have to cross some of the most dangerous geography on the planet, they had to contend with wild animals and a ruthless man who stood in their way.
WHY THIS STORY?
When Tom’s son was killed in a senseless car crash, he read a book by a man who was the only one in his family to survive the horrors of Nazi concentration camps. His name was Victor Frankl, and his book, “Man's Search for Meaning” helped Tom realize that he could get through even the worst of tragedies.
Several years ago, when Tom heard the story of these children’s incredible journey across Africa, he decided to make a movie about it. He knew it would inspire people and help others who may also be dealing with their own tough times.
Tom also knows if he gave a face to children who have nothing and no one would bring awareness which would in turn bring positive action to address the problem.
Tom has always had a passion for this story and he knows how to create a compelling movie.
As an award-winning producer, director and writer, he has produced more than 30 documentary films and a feature film. He’s won two Telly's, was nominated for an Emmy, won the International Film and Video Award, and has been given many other awards.
But more importantly, many of the films he produced made huge differences in people’s lives around the world.
Here are a few examples:
The TV show, “One Family’s Battle” dramatically reduced heroin related deaths.
“Secrets Lies and Apologies” helped people gain a better understanding of the causes of domestic violence.
“Who Will Cry for Our Children” gave a voice to drug affected babies.
“Crank County” educated people about methamphetamine long before it swept across the United States.
Finally, Tom has friends in Africa and they are already working on the project.
A couple years ago I heard a story that inspired me so much I decided to make a movie about it.
Here’s the story:
They were living a simple life in their peaceful little village, when their parents were both murdered. Now forced to flee for their lives and with nowhere to go, they decide to follow their father’s dream to find freedom in America.
Their journey takes them across 2,000 miles of the most dangerous terrain on the planet where they are forced to contend with wild animals and a ruthless man who stands in their way.
I’m happy to report that we are in production.
I found some stock footage and terrific music and used it to create videos about the project. See them at www.ourfathersdream.com.
If you would like to get involved in this movie, let me know.
Any and all feedback is appreciated.
